FAQ about Marriage
Is the imam registered to perform a marriage ceremony? In the State of Texas, it is not required for any Imams/Religious directors to be a certified clergy or Imams to perform a Nikah.
What is required ? Following are the requirements for the imam to perform the (Marriage) Nikah:
What is the procedure ? Once the groom and the bride have been to court and have received their marriage license, that license will be submitted to the Imam at the time of Nikah which he will sign and return it back to the newly weds. Afterwards, either spouse will submit that signed license to the court upon which the court will document their marriage into their governmental records.
Will the newly weds receive an Islamic Nikah Certificate? Yes. The Imam conducting the Ceremony will make two copies of the Islamic Nikah certificate. One will be given to the newly married couple and the second one will be kept with the Imam for records.
What is the service fee ? If the marriage ceremony will take place in the Masjid, the fee is $200 payable to IAMC. The Imam can also perform the ceremony outside the Masjid and the fee is $300. Service fee must be paid prior to the services performed.
Where do I get the state marriage license ? You need to contact Tarrant County Clerk to get information on State Marriage License.
